The Artwork depicts a couple, a man and a woman, bound together. The body language of the two shows a certain tension; they do not look at each other and their facial expressions are serious. It can be understood as a metaphor for the human existence. Every person is bound to other people, through relationships, obligations, and dependencies. These bonds can give us strength and support, but they can also restrict and hinder us.
